Meditation -
Numerous studies now show what our ancestors have known all along: that participating in a regular practice of meditation can enhance your job or sports performance, increase creativity, remove emotional obstacles like fear and anxiety, reduce stress, as well as improve relationships and communications. Physically, it has been found in numerous cases to help the functioning of the immune system, improve brain functions, and help with hypertension, fatigue, chronic pain, ADD, depression, etc.
Meditation is one of the oldest practices known, and is practiced in some form or another by every major religion and spiritual tradition of the world. Many believe and have experienced that meditation helps us to "master the mind" rather than letting the mind control us. This "mind mastery" allows us to truly become the masters of our own destiny, co-creating our life to better achieve our dreams and goals, peace and happiness.
Yoga and Meditation - In the West, yoga and meditation are generally classified as two different disciplines. But in the Indian motherland of these practices, there is no such distinction. Over two thousand years ago, the famous Yoga Sutras book was written, which is the classic sourcebook on yoga. The first injunction of these Sutras is that yoga is "stilling the fluctuations of the mind." The Sutras explain the eightfold yoga process as containing a progression from ethical behavior (yama and niyama), to yogic sitting postures (asanas), to breathing (pranayama), to several stages of detachment and concentration, leading to meditation (dhyana), and ultimately to continuous meditation (samadhi).
During this class series, you will learn both individual hatha yoga poses, and meditations. In all classes, these practices will be intertwined, and the interconnections will be explained.
